Week 9: What a Year!!!

This was my first year of Education and what a year it was.  Education is different then an undergrad degree.  I found in my undergrad degree their was more tests and less projects and in education their is a lot of projects and lots of busy work.  With saying that I am one year down and only one more to go.  I cannot wait to be a teacher!

This year I enjoyed most of my classes but I really enjoyed ICT.  I believe heavily that technology should be a big part of the classroom.  When I first arrived in the class I knew nothing about computers and all the great ways they can be used in the classroom.  After taking this class I feel more comfortable and feel very confident with technology and using it in educational ways.  In this class we made a classroom website, eportfolio, videos and many other projects that were fun to do and very useful for the future.  Mike Nantais is a great teacher and brought in great guest speakers either in person or over Skype to talk to the class.  He also showed us great websites and even let us watch team Canada play a game or two ha ha.  ICT is a great class and I m glad they made it a mandatory class.  I will defiantly use technology in my classroom!

To summarize this year it was a great year.  The Olympics were on television and Canada did great. I got to shoot for tuition.  Even though I missed I had a great time doing it and blessed I got the opportunity to shoot.  My first year has come and gone by very fast.  I have met a bunch of great classmates I can now call my friends and I believe I have grown not only as a student but also as a person.  I cannot wait for my field experience coming up next week and I am looking forward to next year to continue my education.  Thank you!

Here's my digital story I did for ELA class for you to watch. The class had a good laugh watching it and I think you will to:

Week 8: End is Near!!!!

This will be my second last blog for ICT class.  So far this week in ICT we watched our group video presentations and most of them were very well done.  My group and I did a PSA about duck face and how terrible duck face pictures can be.  Also in ICT we had a Skype call with Kathy Cassidy.  We asked her questions and she was very helpful by answering the questions.  She was very informative and it was nice to here from the author of the book.  I have never been a part of a class like this and it was quite interesting.

Also this weekend I woke up at 5am on Sunday morning and went to Houston's to watch Team Canada Men's Hockey Team win the gold medal against Team Sweden.  We won the game 3-0 and as a team we played a perfect game and got great goaltending from Price.  It was a great game and I had so much fun watching the game in bar packed with people.  Every time Canada scored the place went crazy!  Good job to all the Athletes that represented Canada at the Olympics!

Week 7: Hump Day!

Its Wednesday and my week is half over.  This week in ICT we finished up our video projects and will probably present them either Thursday or Monday.  Today in class we watched the majority of the classes sentence PowerPoint's and they were all very good.  Tomorrow were suppose to have a speaker come to our class but it will be very hard to pay attention with the gold medal game in women's hockey on tomorrow.  Ill have to multitask.

Today mom and dad came to the city and took me out for lunch.  I always enjoy visiting with my parents.  They were in the city because mom had a doctors appointment because of her back.  I hope she gets better soon. Besides homework this week I plan on watching the Olympics most of the weekend as they are finishing up.  I enjoy watching the Olympics and hopefully this weekend we see the men's hockey team make the final and we see another golden goal from the men's hockey team. GO Canada GO!!!

Week 6: Times Flies...

Week six is done and only three more weeks till student teaching.  It is not coming soon enough.  This week is ICT class we worked on a video presentation in groups.  My group and I are doing a PSA video and it is funny and I believe Mike will and the class will enjoy it.  We also worked on making videos with PowerPoint and adding audio to them.  My PowerPoint is about the Olympics and Canada.

Also as most of you heard I did not win the tuition money.  I was very disappointed and I know I could of done better but sometimes things just do not work out.  This weekend I headed home and on my way home I stopped by my school I will be student teaching at.  Everyone their was very friendly and I learned that I will not just be with one teacher but possibly be with three or four different teacher.  I think that could be neat.  I will be in the classroom this time around and I am looking forward to it.

Olympics are on and I hope Canada continues to keep doing well. Go Canada Go!

Week 5: Just Another Week...

Another week down and only four more till I head out on another student teaching placement.  This past weekend I went to the pavilions.  I enjoy going to the pavilions.  This year my friends and I checked out four pavilions.  The first one I went to was the Irish Pavilion.  I ate supper there and it was amazing.  I ate Irish stew and a biscuit and a small glass of Irish whisky.  The next pavilion I checked out was the English pavilion.  It had good entertainment; a Beatles cover band was playing.  I did not eat at this one but had a few drinks and let me tell you, the beer there was disgusting.  The third stop on our tour was the Brazilian pavilion.  When we showed up there the last show was on.  The Brazilians are very good dancers.  The last pavilion was the German pavilion.  This one is my favorite.  They put on good shows, have good drinks, and really get the crowd involved throughout the show.  Also on the weekend I watched the Super Bowl.  It was a terrible game and that basically sums that up but good job to the Seattle Seahawks for winning the game.

In ICT class this week we did some photo editing.  We had to make a picture on what learning is.  My partner and I said learning is powerful and had a picture of lightening striking.  Also this week we did some audio recording as a class and I had a lot of fun doing that.  In Julie Ann's class we presented our dramatic story in front of the class and my group and I presented the "Paperbag Princess" by Robert Munch.  It was fun but some classmates of mine took some pictures of me during it and that was embarrassing.  Also for Julie Ann's class we are starting digital story telling and thanks to Mike for teaching us how to do it or else I would not have a clue.  I cannot wait for my class to see mine.  I am a little nervous though, I hope they find it funny and get a good laugh.

The final thing I will discuss is tomorrow night I am shooting for tuition.  I was very nervous but after talking to my sister I fell a lot better but I hope I do well.  Wish me luck friends!  Now here is a video posted on YouTube of the Men's Basketball coach sinking a half court shot for a student, to win him tuition.

Week 4: Mr. Johnson's Classroom

This week in ICT we did many different things.  During class this week we got time to work on our websites.  My website is called Mr. Johnson's Classroom and it is a site for an early years classroom.  I had fun creating the site and if I had my own classroom I would love to set up a website for the students in my classroom and also on the site a part that their parents can access to know what is going on in the classroom.  I set up a link at the top of my blog page for those interested in taking a look at my website.  I hope you enjoy it!

Also in ICT class this week we made digital story videos.  This assignment was very fun and the majority of my classmates and I enjoyed creating our own digital story.  For my digital story I chose the theme "Family."  To me family is very important and I would not be where I am today without the love and support of my family.

This weekend I hope to get out and enjoy some of the pavilions that are around town.  My favorite pavilion is usually the German pavilion but I hope to go see the English and Irish pavilion this year as well.  Also this Sunday is the Super Bowl!!!!  The Super Bowl is outdoors this year in the snow and I cannot wait to see how the game plays out.  GO Manning and the Broncos!

Now here the digital story I created in class of my family and I.  I hope you enjoy!

Week 3: Website Building

This week in class we started to work on making our own website.  To make my own website I chose to use Weebly.  I found that Weebly was a great site to use.  Weebly was very user friendly and that works great for a student like me who is not very good with technology.  One thing with technology I did learn on my own this week was how to cut a portion of a video into a smaller clip.  I was very proud of myself because I had no clue what I was doing when I started, but thanks to Google and the internet it told me how to.  An example of cutting my own clip was in my last post with the video of Mr. D and Technology. I cut the clip of the show out, and posted it on YouTube and then my blog.  Each day I find my ability to expand my use with technology is getting better and better.

Today ICT was cancelled but you could still go and work on your website if you wanted to.  I am very close to being done my website so I did not go and work on it but decided to join a bunch of my  classmates for lunch at the local Pizza Hut.  I was very hungry and joined the rest of my classmates in eating the lunch buffet that Pizza Hut provided.  Even though it was just lunch I enjoy taking part in events with my class.  I am the only guy in the class now but everyone in my class is very nice and everyday they make me feel welcomed and a part of the group.  I am glad I chose the stream I did.

I also have some very good news I would like to share with my followers of my blog and for anyone else who reads this.  I recently won the chance to shoot for tuition during the last bobcat game of the year.  I am very excited!  School is very expensive and this would go a long way to help pay for it.  I have to make a shot from in front of the hoop, then a free throw, then a 3 pointer and lastly if I make all of those, a half court.  I am not allowed to miss at any spot.  I am very nervous and when that day comes I will be even more nervous.  I hope I do well.  Wish me luck!

Now, here is a funny basketball video I hope you enjoy!
